But you certainly can with Big East... Just for kicks, I took the score and rank for each conference's members and averaged them to see what happened. Presumably, what this shows is which conference is the best, top to bottom. Obviously, if you have quality team like Louisville, they're going to be counteracted by a lowly team like UConn, or Stanford vs USC. Because the results came out differently for average team rank and average team score, I decided to post both tables. Let the squabbling begin!
Rank | Conference | Avg. Team Rank |
1 | Big East | 40.8750 |
2 | SEC | 43.8333 |
3 | Big XII | 52.3333 |

Just once I'd like to see a single computer ranking system or way of comparing conferences that puts the SEC on top. It's almost laughable how you can find evidence that just about any conference is better than the SEC.
But really, I think they had a down year anyway.

You can fudge numbers to make them say whatever you want, but that doesn't make it true. Besides, the SEC only barely trails the Big East, and they're way ahead of the 3rd place team, so it's not like they had a bad year. But in a 12-team league, you're likely to be worse overall than an 8 team league simply because there are more teams. The Big East had WVU, Louisville, and Rutgers all ranked highly and USF and Cincy both won their bowl games as well. That only leaves 3 teams who didn't play in bowl games. Awful Syracuse and UConn, and a mediocre Pitt team. Whereas the SEC is getting pulled down by the likes of Ole Miss, Mississsippi State, and Vandy. Sure, they put 9 teams in bowl games, and even though Florida, South Carolina, LSU, Georgia, and Kentucky won, 'Bama, Arkansas, and Tennessee lost, and that's going to hurt your overall standing. If the SEC swept their bowl games, they'd probably be the best conference instead of the Big East.
